Birds in the Sierra
Peru is one of the world´s megadiverse countries, supporting large numbers of species and a wide range of different habitats. This diversity makes it a country of Birdwatching contrasts for the visitor, who can experience arid coastal deserts, the world´s most diverse tropical rainforests, cold marine waters teeming with life, high mountain lakes and grasslands, and dense cloud forests, to name some of the main habitats.
This is combined with an equally diverse cultural heritage with a multitude of acheological sites and a varied modern-day cuisine and customs. Most visitors to Peru focus on the south of the country (Sierra of the Peru), based around Machu Pichu and Cusco, and therefore the north is largely overlooked. It, however, offers some of the most exciting destinations for the visitor interested in both wildlife and archeology
